Are You Awake?

Have you ever felt rudder-less?  Like you don’t know which way you’re supposed to go or why?  Or you feel like your life isn’t satisfying?  What do you want?  Do you know?  Why isn’t your life filled with all those things that you want?

Or like so many people today, we’re so busy running around all day there isn’t much time to stop and wonder, “is this what I want”?  We have a tendency to go through life half-asleep, praying to make it to the vacation where we might re-fuel momentarily before the ride begins again.

Perhaps you have felt a desire for something more in your life.  Maybe it’s a career with more flexibility or less travel.  Maybe you just want to jump off the merry-go-round and shake off that spinning feeling permanently.

Can you imagine the life that you want?  Can you see it?  Feel it?  Could you start envisioning the life you really want right now?  It doesn’t take a lot of energy to do it.  Do you want to try?

Take out a piece of paper and write down all the words that come to mind when you think of living the life of your dreams.  What’s your career?  Who are you within that career?  What about at home?  What’s your environment like?  How do you feel?  How do you spend your time?  What’s in your future?  Write all the words down that come to mind when you think of the life of your dreams.  Perhaps you have words like “companionship,” “health,” “warmth,” “financially stable”.  Whatever words you choose are perfect for you.

Once you’ve written all the words down, take a breath and read them all slowly.  Let each word sink in.  Do this every morning and every night.  Post the words somewhere visible so that you’ll be reminded of them.  Really feel the words and imagine this is your life.  It’s already within you to have this life.

The door is open.  Are you ready to stay awake?

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.

Don’t go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want.

Don’t go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the doorsill

where the two worlds touch.

The door is round and open.

Don’t go back to sleep.
